CornerStone Christian School began operations in 1985 in Cedar Park with one Kindergarten class and grew to offer additional grades each year. The school incorporated in 1991 as a nondenominational, independent school. CornerStone rented facilities from local churches before purchasing SCA’s current Leander campus in 1995. The elementary building first opened for use in January 1997. The school acquired the adjacent property in 2002 with plans for expansion to include separate high school facilities.
Great Hills Christian School began operations in 1976 as Allandale Christian School, a ministry of Allandale Baptist Church. In 1987, the church and school moved to the Arboretum area of Austin and changed their names to Great Hills Baptist Church and Great Hills Christian School (GHCS) respectively. In 1998, GHCS incorporated and became a separate entity as an interdenominational, independent school. In June 2001, the school trustees purchased SCA’s current Cedar Park campus. After an extensive renovation project, students began attending school on the Cedar Park campus in January 2002.
In November 2002, CornerStone’s administration contacted representatives of Great Hills to discuss the possibility of creating a joint-effort Secondary school as a third entity governed by representation from both schools. Once the Board of Trustees of GHCS and the Board of Directors of CSCS met, both Boards caught a vision of a school that could offer the highest quality Christian education while being better stewards of God’s resources. The idea of a complete merger of the two schools began to come together. Through God’s work in this group of believers, the new entity, Summit Christian Academy, was born. In just two months, key details of the merger were worked out, enabling the two schools to begin the enrollment process for the 2003-2004 school year as one.
